FOR TEACHERS WHO WANT STUDENTS TO ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND MUSIC
Â
TEACH
THINKING
MUSICIANS.
MusicSense helps independent music teachers move beyond page-by-page instruction and teach students to recognize patterns, solve problems, understand what they hear, and become independent musicians.
YOU CAN TEACH
MORE THAN
THE NEXT NOTE.
Help students recognize patterns, understand what they hear, solve problems, and make musical decisions for themselves.
INTRODUCING
MUSICSENSE STUDIO
Tools, training, and community for teachers who want to build independent, thinking musicians.
YOU KNOW HOW TO TEACH A SONG.
But teaching a student how to understand music? That's a different thing.
Students can learn where to put their fingers, what notes to play, and how to get through the next page without really understanding what they're doing.
- Recognize patterns
- Hear and understand music
- Solve problems independently
Instead of always asking, “What note is this?” we can start asking a much more interesting question:
“What do you notice?”
THE FRAMEWORK
TEACH THE MUSIC, NOT JUST THE PAGE
Music is more than a sequence of notes to decode.
MusicSense helps you teach the patterns underneath the page—direction, intervals, rhythm, chords, technique, ear training, and more—so students begin to understand how music actually works.
» See the patterns
» Hear the relationships
» Understand the why
Because reading music is important. Understanding it changes everything.
THE TOOLS
RESOURCES YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE.
Good teaching ideas are great. But at some point, you need something you can actually pull out in a lesson.
MusicSense gives you practical tools designed for real students, real lessons, and all the wonderfully unpredictable things that happen in between.
» Ready-to-use activities
» Games + teaching tools
» Flexible resources for real students
Less time reinventing the wheel. More time actually teaching.
THE TRAINING
LEARN THE WHY BEHIND THE HOW.
A great activity is useful. Understanding why it works gives you the freedom to adapt it for the student sitting in front of you.
MusicSense goes beyond giving you things to teach. You'll dig into how students learn, why common approaches sometimes break down, and how to make intentional teaching decisions in the moment.
» Practical pedagogy
» Science-backed learning strategies
» Tools for adapting in real time
Because the best teaching isn't a script. It's knowing what to do when the script stops working.
THE COMMUNITY
DON'T TEACH ON AN ISLAND.
Teaching can be weirdly lonely. You spend your days making hundreds of tiny decisions for completely different students—and sometimes you just need another teacher who gets it.
MusicSense gives you a place to bring the questions, the wins, the experiments, and the lessons that absolutely did not go according to plan.
» Live pedagogy + discussion
» Real teaching questions
» A community of curious teachers
Bring the weird student situation. We'll figure it out together.
BETTER TEACHING ISN'T ABOUT HAVING MORE ANSWERS.
Â
IT'S ABOUT ASKING BETTER QUESTIONS.
MusicSense helps you build the understanding and confidence to know what to ask, what to notice, and where to go next.
HEY, I'M BRITTANY!
I’ve been teaching music for more than 20 years, and somewhere along the way I became a little obsessed with one question:
Why does music make sense to some students... and feel completely mysterious to others?
Â
I started paying attention to what happened when we stopped treating music like a giant collection of notes, rules, and things to memorize—and started helping students notice direction, distance, patterns, relationships, and sound.
That curiosity eventually became MusicSense.
MusicSense is the teaching system I wish I’d had years ago: a way to help students understand what they’re doing, give teachers practical tools they can actually use, and create musicians who can think for themselves.
I don’t just want students who can play music.
I want students who understand it.
